Words & Phrases: Look - How to teach your dog to talk with buttons

"Look" is a great word for your dog to use to direct your attention, either to themselves, or to something you're looking at. At the same time, it gives you another way to get the attention of your pet.

Look: what does this word mean for my dog?

At the most simple level, look will mean "please give me attention." However, your dog's understanding of the word can evolve into a way to signal that something has captured their attention, and that they would like to bring it to your attention too.

Look: How can my dog say it with recordable word buttons?

  • If you have already taught your dog to look at you when you say "look," you might be able to simply give them the button and wait for them to figure it out for themselves that now they have a way to ask the same of you.
  • It may also help to use the word first as a command.
  • If your dog has a tendency to sit and stare when they need attention, press "look" whenever they do so. Follow up by giving them plenty of attention.
