Words & Phrases: Help - How to teach your dog to talk with buttons

"Help" is a little complicated, but it's proven to be one of the most useful and valuable words to add to any dog talking buttons board.

Help: What does it mean to my dog?

It might take a little more time than past words, but once your dog is appropriately using "help," they understand it the same way humans do. They're basically saying, "help me!"

Help: How can I teach my dog?

  • When a toy gets stuck—behind the couch, for example—ask your dog if they need help, then retrieve the toy and press the "help" button yourself
  • If your pet's toy isn't accessible, and they signal that they want access to it, press the help button yourself before granting them access.
